This was maybe the first time that a DreamWorks movie stepped up
and challenged Pixar on its own ground, mixing real emotion and
heart-stopping adventure in a film that came out of nowhere and
enchanted everyone who saw it. The story of an outsider boy who learns
that the dragons his people have been fighting may actually be the key
to their survival, it's an utterly charming tale of unlikely friendship
and challenging prejudice. It also has the most enormous, breathtaking
climax of any film this year, one guaranteed to have you on the edge of
your seat with your heart in your mouth. Sometimes, our heroes don't
overcome impossible odds without a scratch.
Best Bit: Hiccup and his dragon Toothless finally go on a soaring flight that will leave you wishing wanting a flying reptile for Christmas.
